What We Believe

We believe the Bible, the Old and New Testaments, is the written Word of God. It is “breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). It is trustworthy and sufficient to make a person wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus and to equip believers for every good work.

Because the Bible is God’s Word, it has final authority over what we believe and how we live. Every teaching, including the teaching of this ministry, must be examined in the light of Scripture, as the believers in Berea did when they “examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so” (Acts 17:11).

We are committed to explaining the Bible clearly, faithfully and simply, letting Scripture interpret Scripture, and reading every passage in its context and in the light of the whole Bible.

We believe in one living and true God, the Creator of heaven and earth, who rules over all that He has made (Genesis 1:1; Psalm 103:19). “The LORD our God, the LORD is one” (Deuteronomy 6:4). There is no other God besides Him (Isaiah 45:5-6).

God is holy, righteous and just. He is also love (1 John 4:8), merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He has made Himself known through creation, through His Word and, most fully, through His Son Jesus Christ.

The Scriptures reveal God as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, working together in creation, redemption and the new life of every believer. Jesus taught His followers to know God as Father, to trust in Him as the Son, and to receive the Holy Spirit whom the Father sends in His name.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, the Word who “was with God, and… was God”, who “became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:1, 14). He was born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, and revealed the Father perfectly.

Jesus is both Lord and Savior. He is “Lord of all” (Acts 10:36), the one whom God has “made both Lord and Christ” (Acts 2:36), and the only Savior given to humanity: “there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

Our confidence is in Jesus Christ: who He is and what He has accomplished for our salvation.

His baptism. At the beginning of His public ministry Jesus came to John at the Jordan to be baptised. When John hesitated, Jesus answered, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness” (Matthew 3:15). As He came up from the water the heavens were opened, the Spirit of God descended on Him like a dove, and the Father’s voice declared, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:16-17). Jesus’ baptism marked the public beginning of the work the Father had sent Him to do.

His crucifixion. Jesus carried our sins and died under judgment for us. “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree” (1 Peter 2:24). “He was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities… and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:5-6). His death was a real death, a willing sacrifice, and a complete payment for sin.

His resurrection. On the third day God raised Jesus from the dead. He “has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 15:20). His resurrection is the proof that His sacrifice was accepted and the guarantee that all who belong to Him will also be raised.

His exaltation. Having made purification for sins, Jesus “sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:3). He is seated at the right hand of the Father, reigning as Lord and interceding for His people.

We believe that a believer is saved through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Jesus carried our sins, died under judgment for us, rose from the dead as the firstfruits, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. Our confidence is in Jesus Christ: who He is and what He accomplished for our salvation.

Salvation is God’s gift, received by faith and not earned by works: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Saving faith is personal trust in Jesus Christ, confessing Him as Lord and believing in the heart that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9-10). Everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins, peace with God (Romans 5:1) and eternal life (John 3:16).

Repentance. Jesus began His preaching with the call, “Repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15). To repent is to turn: to change our mind about sin and about God, to turn away from sin and to turn towards God in trust. Repentance and faith belong together; the one who truly believes in Christ turns from sin, and the one who turns from sin looks to Christ. “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19).

New birth. Jesus said, “Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). The new birth is God’s work, not ours. By His Spirit and through His Word, God gives new life to those who believe: “you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God” (1 Peter 1:23).

Everyone who is in Christ is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). The new birth brings a new heart, a new relationship with God as Father, and a new direction for life.

We believe that those who have been saved by grace are called to follow Jesus as His disciples. Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Discipleship is a daily, lifelong walk of learning from Christ and obeying Him.

The Christian life is marked by love: love for God and love for one another, so that the world may know we are His disciples (John 13:34-35). It is a life in which the Word of Christ dwells richly (Colossians 3:16), prayer is constant, and the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control—grows over time (Galatians 5:22-23).

Disciples are also called to make disciples, teaching others to observe all that Jesus commanded (Matthew 28:19-20). SHK Mission exists to serve this calling by helping believers understand the Bible clearly and live it out faithfully.

We believe that because Jesus rose from the dead as the firstfruits, all who belong to Him will also be raised (1 Corinthians 15:20-23). Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live” (John 11:25).

We look forward to the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, who promised, “I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also” (John 14:3). At His coming the dead in Christ will be raised, death will be swallowed up in victory (1 Corinthians 15:54), and God’s people will be with the Lord forever (1 Thessalonians 4:17).

This hope is not wishful thinking but a confident expectation grounded in the finished work of Christ. It comforts believers in grief, strengthens them in suffering and motivates them to live for the King whose kingdom will have no end. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more” (Revelation 21:4).
